| Hawks
Nuts, Inc. was established in December, 1995 by Marlene and Paul
Hawks. Paul, originally from West Virginia and Marlene, originally
from Alabama, wanted to blend their Original Jumbo Boiled Peanuts
into the "Southern Culture" like grits, bar-ba-que, and
fried chicken. Anybody can boil peanuts, but very few can create
a consistent flavor and texture into the boiled peanuts.
Marlene and
Paul spent hours and hours working on a recipe for two flavors of
boiled peanuts, regular (salty) and Cajun (spicy hot). Once the
recipe was finalized, they began working on the texture. Cooked
too long the peanuts were mushy, cooked too little the peanuts were
hard. Finally, after much experimentation, the RIGHT soaking and
cooking times were agreed upon and HAWKS ORIGINAL JUMBO BOILED PEANUTS
were "on the street" with unbeatable quality.
In
the beginning there were two employees using two cookers and boiling
about 4,000 lbs. a week in a 1,000 square foot building. Today there
are five employees using four cookers and boiling up to 65,000 lbs.
a week in our new state of the art, 10,000 square foot plant.
In the first
four years of operation, Hawks has produced and distributed more
than six MILLION pounds of their now famous Hawks Original Jumbo
Boiled Peanuts. Using a network of fully trained independent distributors
Hawks Original Jumbo Boiled Peanuts can now be found in Florida,
Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Kentucky.
Boiled peanuts
are packaged in one, two, and five pound bags. Fully cooked, seasoned,
and frozen Hawks Original Jumbo Boiled Peanuts are available at
many convenience stores, supermarkets, produce stands, little leagues
and special events like concerts. Hawks uses only Virginia type
jumbo peanuts and has contracts with suppliers for a year round
supply. All bags carry both a UPC bar code and nutritional facts
information.
